Abstract
Prenatal control is the main mechanism and fundamental tool to guarantee effective follow-up and quality care for pregnant women, prevent complications and bring the pregnancy to a successful term; Hence, this positivist, documentary, descriptive work aims to carry out a review of prenatal control and its importance in the prevention of complications. Theoretically it was based on the consultation of the different CPN programs in Ecuador, the mother/child morbidity and mortality rates and the importance of CPN for the prevention of complications, according to authors such as Langer, A., & Campero, L. (2004). WHO Villar, J. and Bergsio, P. (2002). It is carried out with qualitative methodology, leading to the fact that the CPN allows early diagnosis and timely care of the pregnant woman, achieving a significant decrease in the morbidity and mortality rates of the mother/child binomial. Furthermore, although there are various CPN programs in the public health system, it warrants greater scope and information in this regard, which is why it is recommended to expand the coverage of specialized consultations and promote dissemination of the programs to the entire population.
